Publication of the Dissertation §15

  1. The dissertation is to be published in letterpress or photographic print, microfiche, CD-ROM, in an electronic format, as a chapter in a collected volume, or in academic journals.
  2. The revisions voucher (see supplementary regulations of the various departments, Appendix 4 of the Regulations for Doctoral Study, Dr. phil.) will, as a general rule, be signed by the advisor prior to the publication of the dissertation.
  3. The obligatory copies of the approved draft of the dissertation must contain a title-page or supplementary page which contains all the details and information stipulated by the supplementary regulations of the various departments (Appendix 2 of the Regulations for Doctoral Study, Dr. phil.). In the edition printed for the book trade, the copyright must contain the figure D.30.
  4. The dissertation is to be made available to the academic community in an appropriate fashion. This stipulation is met when the candidate has provided, in addition to the five copies of the dissertation presented to the readers, the faculty library, and the common office, the following copies to the university library, free of charge:

Either:

  • 25 copies in letterpress or photographic printing for the purpose of distribution, or
  • 3 copies if the publication occurred in an academic journal, or
  • 3 copies if a commercial or scholarly publisher undertakes the distribution via the book trade and also certifies a printing of at least 150 copies, or
  • 4 copies in typeface capable of being copied, along with the chief copy (masterfiche) and 25 additional copies in microfiche format, or
  • 4 copies in typeface capable of being copied, along with 25 CD-ROMs, or
  • 1 CD-ROM, the data-format and the volume of which are to be determined in conjunction with the university library, along with 4 copies in typeface capable of being copied, so far as the work has been uploaded to the internet server of the university.

Conferring the Doctoral Degree §14

  1. After the dissertation has been published in the manner determined by §13 of the Regulations for Doctoral Study (Dr. phil.), or when certification of acceptance for print by a publisher—along with the prospective date of publication—has been provided, the doctoral degree will be conferred upon the candidate and the doctoral degree certificate will be distributed.
  2. The certificate contains the area of specialization for doctoral study, the title of the dissertation, the mark of the dissertation and the mark for the disputation, as well as the final mark. The certificate contains the date of the disputation, which itself counts as the date of the completion of study. The certificate will be provided with the stamped seal of the university and will be signed by the dean and the chair of the Doctoral Studies Board.
  3. After reception of the certificate, the doctoral candidate has the right to use the corresponding academic title.
